Daniel Grasskamp is a filmmaker drawn to character-driven stories across genres with coming-of-age themes.

He’s a PAGE Awards Finalist, a ScreenCraft Semi-finalist, and a quarter-finalist for the Academy Nicholl Fellowship.

He wrote, directed, produced and edited his first feature-length film Cat Skin (2017) on a micro-budget.

Cat Skin played at international film festivals, including PÖFF: The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in collaboration with the British Council's youth programme Just Film. It received multiple award nominations and won the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature Film at the Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival.

He took part in the BFI Network Writer's Lab, was shortlisted for Channel 4's Directing Talent Scheme 4Stories, was longlisted for the Creative UK and Netflix partnership Breakout, and received a Mentorship in Directing from the BFI-supported career development programme ScreenSkills.

In short films, he co-directed and edited the commissioned documentary See Again (2019) with filmmaker Fred Burns (Basically, Johnny Moped - Netflix), which premiered at the Manchester Film Festival. His scripted shorts have screened at film markets at Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival and Palm Springs Film Festival.

He has directed music videos and live performances for bands, including Sea Power and Frightened Rabbit, and branded content for companies Lidl, UK Power Networks and Virgin.

Starting as a production runner for the BBC at eighteen, Daniel worked his way up to cutting broadcast promos for Warner Bros.TV at OnDemand! (now Vubiquity), and managed the post-production department for the agency Instinctif.

He coloured the BFI-supported feature documentary Maisie (2021), which premiered at the Sheffield Doc Film Festival and won Best Documentary at Dublin Film Festival. His writing and directing benefit from his experience in post-production.

Daniel graduated from the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham with a BA Honours Degree in Film Production. He specialized in Directing and shot his graduation film Daddy and the Deer (2009) on 16mm film. The film topped Shooting People's Film of the Month chart.
