Daniel Grasskamp is a British-German Filmmaker drawn to coming-of-age stories across genres.
He wrote and directed (produced and edited) his first feature-length film Cat Skin (2017) on a micro-budget. The film screened at PÖFF: The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival as part of the Just Film youth programme, was nominated for the young adult Gryphon Award at the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy, and won the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature Film at the Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival. Cat Skin was released online and has over three million views.
The screenplay for his latest short, One Last Run (2019), reached the semifinals in the ScreenCraft Film Fund competition. He also co-directed the short documentary Father, Will I See Again (2019) with filmmaker Fred Burns (Basically, Johnny Moped), which premiered at the Manchester Film Festival (2020).
He has directed live performances and music videos for FatCat Records and Rough Trade,
including bands British Sea Power, The Mystery Jets and Frightened Rabbit.
Starting as a production runner for the BBC at the age of 18, Daniel worked his way up to cutting broadcast promos for Warner Bros.TV at OnDemand! (now Vubiquity), and managed the post-production department for the agency Instinctif, where he also directed branded content for Lidl and Virgin.
Recently, he coloured the BFI / Doc Society supported feature documentary Maisie (2021) which premiered at the Sheffield Doc Film Festival (2021). His experience in post-production influences his approach when writing and directing.
